Global Priorities Institute

cofounder and SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

The Global Priorities Institute is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Oxford. Our aim is to conduct foundational research that informs the decision-making of individuals and institutions seeking to do as much good as possible. We prioritise topics which are important, neglected, and tractable, and use the tools of multiple disciplines, especially philosophy and economics, to explore the issues at stake.

Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research

Director

The Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research aims to promote academic work that addresses the question of how to use our scarce resources to improve the world by as much as possible.

The Forethought Foundation is especially interested in the idea that the primary determinant of the value of our actions today is how those actions influence the very long-run future.

Introduction to Utilitarianism

coCREATOR

This website aims to provide a concise, accessible and engaging introduction to modern utilitarianism. The content of this website aims to be understandable to a broad audience, avoiding philosophical jargon where possible and providing definitions where necessary. We hope it can serve as a textbook introduction to utilitarianism at the undergraduate level.

80,000 Hours was founded in October 2011 to help young people use the 80,000 hours they’ve got in their career to make a difference: we provide one-on-one career coaching and produce in-depth research on the careers that do the most to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

Giving What We Can

Cofounder

Giving What We Can is a global community of effective givers that aims to create a culture where people are inspired to give more, and give more effectively. We can help donors find high-impact causes and then identify the best charities so they can do the most good. Thousands of our members from many different walks of life have taken The Giving What We Can Pledge to give at least 10% of income to most improve the lives of others. Each of us has an incredible opportunity to improve the world through charitable giving. Together, we can make the world much better for all its inhabitants, for generations to come.
